Celebrating Community and The New Year

Celebrating Community and The New Year

Robby Bancroft’s birthday is tomorrow, and he’s inviting everyone to celebrate with him in the form of community support. Bancroft, who is a board member for Pacificans Care, has started a fundraiser for his birthday in an effort to raise money for the community foundation. The fundraiser, which was organized via Facebook one week ago, smashed through its initial goal of $1,000 and has now raised over $1,600 towards its new goal of $2,023. Would-be donors can give through Facebook, but also on the Pacificans Care official website.

“I usually try to put together a big party or show at a local bar, but have been trying to slow down for multiple reasons, including a recent car accident and getting sick with a cold earlier this week,” said Bancroft, who turns 38 on December 22nd. “I’m going with a more digital approach and since it’s a goal of mine to try to not spread myself too thin in 2024, I’m taking being sick as an opportunity to practice that early while still trying to make a difference for our community in the ways I try to do every year around the holidays.”

Bancroft’s impact on the community has not been diminished by any change in his approach. As a board member of Pacificans Care, Bancroft works closely with many local businesses and city agencies in an effort to bolster the community, including the Pacifica Resource Center – where he worked as development and communications coordinator from September 2016 to September 2020. PRC, among meeting other critical needs, serves as the connection and distribution center for Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley and is the recipient of an annual grant from Pacificans Care.

In addition to his efforts through Pacificans Care and its partners, Bancroft’s restaurant – Breakers Breakfast, Brunch & Lunch – has teamed up with the Garrigan family for their 13th Annual Toy Drive. Since the passing of Scott Christian Garrigan in 2009, his family has hosted a toy drive in honor of Scott’s holiday spirit and giving nature, which he expressed in ways such as dressing up as Santa Claus to help at fundraisers and sponsoring a family during the holiday season.

The 13th Annual Toy Drive’s goal was to collect at least 1,010 toys – 10 was Scott’s favorite number – by December 15. As of December 18, 1,527 toys had been donated and, as a result, the drive has been extended through Dec 21 for those looking to swing by the Garrigan residence or Rockaway Beach to make a last minute donation.

Those planning on heading to Breakers today to make a donation will be among the first patrons graced with the opportunity to try the restaurant’s brand new menu item  – fresh squeezed mimosas, which have been added to the menu as a means of celebration to ring in the new year. “Ever since we opened, people have been asking for mimosas,” said Robby’s father Steve Bancroft, who co-owns and operates Breakers with his son. “We’re headed into our 10th year in business, and finally bringing mimosas to our menu seemed like the perfect way to celebrate that upcoming milestone.”
