Breakers Turns 10!

Breakers Turns 10!

Breakers Breakfast, Brunch & Lunch celebrated a huge milestone last month. On Thursday, March 8, Breakers turned 10, marking a decade of serving delicious eats from Rockaway Beach to the surrounding Bay Area.

Breakers is owned and operated by the co-founding father and son duo of Steve and Robby Bancroft, and through their bonded leadership, the motto of “Life is better at Breakers” has been upheld through unimaginable obstacles including a global pandemic that caused the restaurant to close for nine months and a post-pandemic recession that has driven the closure of a multitude of local restaurants in the past year.

Robby grew up working in restaurants once he was old enough to get a job, and Steve, who now boasts over three decades of experience in the restaurant industry, was well-versed in every aspect of running a restaurant aside from owning one of his own. The pair called Breakers a “dream come true” when they opened their doors in the spring of 2014, and throughout all the trials and tribulations that Breakers has faced and endured, that sentiment remained unchanged.

“It’s hard to believe that it’s been ten years already. Sometimes it feels like more and sometimes it feels like less,” said Robby. “My dad used to say ‘the first year is the hardest’ then all we had to do was ‘just make it past five years’.”

The restaurant industry has changed quite a bit since Breakers made it past the five-year mark in 2019, but the plucky father-son duo and their crew have battened down the hatches through all adversity with a potent combination of voracious passion and deft execution.

It’s this approach and attitude that makes Robby confident that they can handle whatever challenges sent the way of Breakers, and the last decade is a testament to that. “I’m looking forward to seeing what 10-plus years may bring!”

In the spirit of celebrating the achievement, Breakers added mimosas to their menu last December, but that certainly isn’t the only plan for the second decade of the Bancroft’s’ cozy eatery on the coastline.

“We're bringing in some beer options as well,” Robby Bancroft said in an exclusive announcement during a recent interview on KSCM FM 91.1 radio show Places and Spaces. “We'll have some California craft beers and even some local beers if we can from Pacifica.”

Service to one’s community has been a mission for the Bancrofts inside and outside the four walls of their restaurant – Robby has been on the board of Pacificans Care Community Foundation since 2020  – and their aims to partner with local breweries are sure to be one of many ways Breakers will further solidify itself as a fixture the Pacifica community.

If you’d like to celebrate Breakers’ milestone year with them in style, head down to Rockaway Beach any day of the week from 7:00am-3:00pm – make sure you grab a mimosa or beer!
