What's Next for Mr. Pacifica?
It has been just over one year since Robby Bancroft ran for a seat in the Pacifica City Council. While he may not have claimed District 2’s seat in that election, Bancroft has spent the past year continuing to serve his community as he gears up for a new chapter in 2024.
Bancroft’s devotion to the community of Pacifica began well before his 2022 campaign. The lifetime Pacifican owns Rockaway Beach joint Breakers Breakfast, Brunch & Lunch with his father, Steve, and is also a board member of Pacificans Care.
“We’re gearing up to launch our Giving Tuesday/Year End Fundraiser where we are challenging our community to help us raise $20,000 with a matching grant of $10,000 from one of the local grocery stores Oceana Market and our board of directors,” said Bancroft. Pacificans Care’s last event in October, the Double Gold Day Wine Tasting Fundraiser, raised over $25,000.
Bancroft served as the Development Coordinator at the Pacifica Resource Center from September 2016 to September 2020 and continued to bolster his community as a marketing consultant for local businesses. Bancroft officially launched his marketing agency last month for a project with the City of Pacifica’s Hotel Business Improvement District (BID) and the Pacifica Chamber of Commerce.
This isn’t to say Bancroft has stepped out of politics since his 2022 Pacifica City Council campaign. He’s still involved, albeit in a different way than he was 12 months ago. The CADEM Delegate is headed to the CADEM Endorsement Convention in Sacramento this weekend.
“Being a delegate is less of a commitment than it seems but it still keeps me in the loop for what is going on locally and at the state party level,” Bancroft explained. “In addition to that, I am also Assembly member Marc Berman's alternate for the San Mateo County Central Committee so that puts me in some rooms and at events representing him and Pacifica that I or anyone else from here typically wouldn't be in.”
As long as the well-being of Pacifica is the matter at hand, it’s safe to say that Bancroft will remain politically active. However, he plans to take the next few months to recharge a bit before re-focusing for 2024. “Everything seems to be political to a certain degree but I wouldn't say that is my main venture going forward,” said Bancroft.
Everything does seem to be political these days. Even Bancroft’s band, OBSOLETE MAN, has a radical edge to its thunderous brand of powerviolence-influenced hardcore – but that’s one thing that won’t be on his plate in 2024. The band is currently on hiatus, but does have plans to record their third EP later in the year. Bancroft also hopes to bring his community-focused podcast, Robby’s World, back in 2024 as well.
“Now that my campaign is over, and I've settled into these current political roles, I'm shifting gears to re-focus on Breakers to make sure that we can afford to keep operating as efficiently as possible. Breakers is the heartbeat of my world. If that isn't pumping, then I can't do what I do outside of the restaurant for our community.”
In a town where three restaurants have closed in the last month alone, Breakers hopes to thrive, and Bancroft is optimistic that his new agency can help other businesses in Pacifica do the same.
“People call me "Mr. Pacifica", so there's no doubt that I care deeply about our community and everything I do is related to that. If anything, 2024 has to be the year I try to take on a little less so that the things I do care about and am currently working on have a chance to make a real lasting impact.
